BRIEF:
To coincide with the Ouyen Centenary Celebrations Legitimate Films in association with Drift Media are offering a filmmaking program at Ouyen P-12 school.
The program will be run over 7 days during Term 2, 2009 and is aimed at up skilling students, teachers and community members in web 2.0 technology as well as enhancing school resources to set up and maintain ongoing filmmaking programs throughout the school’s curriculum.
PROGRAM OUTLINE:
The 7 day program as outlined in the following document involves visiting filmmakers (Scott Baskett & Michael Green) attending Ouyen P-12 School for 3 full days of workshops including Practical Techniques, Practical Craft and Production Exercises.
The program is suitable for 30 students and anywhere between 2-6 teachers. The students will work alongside community members towards an end goal of creating content about the town they live in. Through building these connections we aim to enhance strong relationships between community members and the school, enabling an ongoing partnership towards continued synergy in the film making area.
Participants in this program will work in small groups to make films along the theme of “Living in Ouyen”. Each group will be made up of 5 students, 1 community member.
Between them, Scott Baskett and Michael Green have over 16 years experience working in and with schools. The primary focus has been the provision of services in the realm of film and media production training, student film festivals, program development (on both large and small scales, with a variety of outcomes/focuses) and other community capacity building projects.
EQUIPMENT:
Adding to the resources of the school (3 JVC cameras and 2 Mac computers) this program will provide the following filmmaking equipment for the school’s continued use (over $1600 worth of equipment): ·3 Flip Cameras ·3 Tripods ·1 Reflector Kit
REFLECTION:
Teachers involved in the program will actively participant in the group work. If possible 1 teacher per group would be a great addition. Teachers involved will be asked to reflect at the end of each session using the technologies they use in the program. As the students and community members work to create their content, teachers will be asked to use Flip Cameras to record some of the action and give a 1-2 minute “to camera” reflection at the end of the day (see attachment 6). It is important to note here that this is not intended to be an onerous task on the participating teachers, more an activity that reflects sound use of the technology that can also be used to benefit future programs.
